SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The San Francisco Giants believe outfielder AJ Pollock can benefit from new surroundings — and help their club make a push for the playoffs.San Francisco acquired Pollock and infielder/outfielder Mark Mathias from the Seattle Mariners on Monday ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline for a player to be named or cash.Pollock could provide immediate help with the Giants missing outfielder Mike Yastrzemski, who went on the 10-day injured list Monday with a strained left hamstring and is likely to miss a few weeks.The 35-year-old Pollock has struggled in his only season with the Mariners, hitting .173 with five homers and 15 RBIs in 49 games. Pollock was signed to be part of a platoon in left field with Jarred Kelenic but never found consistent playing time after Kelenic’s hot start.Pollock is on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring and played only six games in July. A Maryland man has been sentenced in a crash that killed a couple who were on their way to vote last year.Davinder Singh, 47, of Gaithersburg was found guilty in the death of Miguel Antonio Ortiz, 65, and Ana Margarita Ortiz, 70. (KDVR) -- A Thornton man has been arrested for allegedly violating a protection order that mandated he stay 15 feet away from the mayor.Dariush Namazi told the Problem Solvers he was taken into custody on Thursday at a Ward 4 Ice Cream Social at the Fallbrook Farms Park. Thornton Mayor Jan Kulman was in attendance, as was Namazi. Kulman was granted the protection order on July 18 after she showed an Adams County magistrate judge a body camera video that she said showed Namazi invading her personal space and making her feel concerned for her safety. DENVER (KDVR) -- The suspect in a Pueblo homicide was arrested Sunday night after allegedly shooting at police in New Mexico.According to New Mexico State Police, around 1:50 a.m., officers in Las Vegas, New Mexico, were conducting a DWI stop when a black Nissan truck pulled up beside them.The driver, Robert James Rudichar, 43, of Colorado, asked officers if he was in Las Vegas.When an officer approached, Rudichar allegedly pointed a rifle out of the window and fired toward officers.
