Nishita was working as a security guard for KRON4 when he was killed in Oakland on Nov 24, 2021. “My office has reached a decision regarding the charges against two of the three defendants accused of murdering Kevin Nishita," Price said. “We believe there is evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt to charge both defendants, Shadihia Mitchell and Hershel Hale, each with one count of first-degree murder."Hale, Mitchell and Laron Marques Gilbert were all charged with murder, attempted robbery, and assault with a firearm by Price's predecessor, Nancy O'Malley in early 2022. Bernie Sanders to Force Vote on Israeli War Crimes. . . ISI Document Blows Up Pakistan's Case Against Imran Khan

This article was originally published as a newsletter from Ryan Grim. Sign up to get the next one in your inbox. At the end of November, my colleague Dan Boguslaw caught up with Bernie Sanders on his way into a meeting with Democrats in the Capitol, and had a chance for a brief interview. He asked Sanders if he had any plans to force a vote that would condition military aid to Israel on the country’s willingness to abide by international laws of war. Sanders responded in the affirmative. I covered the exchange the next day on Counter Points, and added that there actually is an obscure procedural tool Sanders could use to force a vote. It’s outlined in Section 502(b) of the Foreign Assistance Act, and it’s never been used in this way, but the law is extremely clear. Two weeks later, Sanders has now introduced a resolution to force a vote using 502(b). It has to sit in the Foreign Relations Committee for 10 days before it can be brought to the floor, which means it’ll be ripe in the Ne...

MADRID (AP) — Girona returned to the top of the Spanish league after a comprehensive 3-0 win over mid-table Alaves on Monday. The result lifted Girona two points ahead of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga and nine clear of third-place Barcelona.Striker Artem Dovbyk scored two goals and winger Yan Bueno Cuoto dazzled on the right wing as Girona was far superior.Alaves has gone 24 matches away from home without a win, the worst such run in the club’s history. The surprise title contender took the lead midway through the first half when Dovbyk was on hand to nod home a rebound after Antonio Sivera could only parry Cuoto’s shot.Cuoto was involved again four minutes before halftime when the tricky winger fed Portu, who spun and rifled in a low shot. With an hour gone, Dovbyk made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after Cuoto was brought down in the box. It was the Ukrainian striker’s 10th goal in 16 games. Only Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham has scored more.Alaves was 13th place in La Liga, three...

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Tyson Walker scored 14 points and dished five assists and Michigan State shot just under 50% from the field to cruise past Oakland 79-62 on Monday night. Walker, coming off a 25-point effort in the Spartans’ 88-64 win over No. 6 Baylor Saturday night, was knocked to the floor as he hit a baseline jumper with 8:24 left to reach 1,000th career points, then completed the three-point play. Millions of dollars at stake if Wizards, Capitals move, DC think-tank says

There are thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in revenue at stake if Capital One Arena hosts fewer events as a result of the Washington Capitals and Wizards moving to Northern Virginia, according to a new analysis from the D.C. Policy Center. When the Capital One Arena opened in 1997, it resulted in growth around the facility, the report found. At the time, there were 14 residential buildings within half a mile of the arena and since then, the city has added 28 new ones.As the neighborhood developed, its employment growth outpaced the rest of the city until the pandemic in 2020. For one, there were 69 restaurants within a half-mile of the arena in 1999, and since then, 139 others have opened. However, currently, there are only 98.If the arena isn’t as much of a destination, some businesses could move or close. Some already did in the aftermath of the pandemic, and further closures could result in the loss of up to 2,250 jobs and $76 million in annual sales, the analysis f...

BALTIMORE (AP) — Maryland officials approved a lease extension for the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards on Monday, formalizing a long-term agreement between the team and the state and capping months of negotiations that were challenged by how to proceed with future development plans near the ballpark. The state’s Board of Public Works, chaired by Gov. Wes Moore, voted 3-0 for the lease extension, after it was approved by the Maryland Stadium Authority earlier in the day.“This is a great day, and I am thrilled to tell you why, but first I want to say something that I have been waiting to say for a long time: Baltimore, the deal is done,” Moore, a Democrat, said at a news conference. The deal extends the lease for 30 years, with an option to end it after 15 if the team does not receive approval from state officials for development plans next to the stadium. The Orioles’ lease at Camden Yards, which is owned by the state of Maryland, was set to expire at the end of the year. ...
