(CNN) — Attorney Evan Corcoran recused himself from representing former President Donald Trump in the special counsel investigation related to the Mar-a-Lago documents given that he testified for investigators, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN.Corcoran’s exit, which was first reported by The Washington Post, was an expected development after special counsel Jack Smith’s office forced him to testify without the shield of attorney-client privilege in front of the grand jury and prosecutors accused Trump of using his attorney to advance a crime.Despite recusing himself from the Mar-a-Lago probe weeks ago, Corcoran continues to represent Trump on other matters, including the January 6, 2021, investigation. He appeared in court on behalf of the former president for sealed proceedings related to that part of Smith’s probe just days after his testimony in the Mar-a-Lago documents case.Corcoran could still resume representing Trump in the documents ...Hundreds gather for remembrance ceremony as Boston marks 10 years since marathon bombings

National, state, and local leaders gathered alongside bombing survivors and hundreds of area residents on Boylston Street on Saturday to honor the memories of those who died in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings and to unveil a new One Boston Day marker near the scene of the terror attack. U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Gov. Maura Healey, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, and other elected officials were on hand for events marking the anniversary of the bombings.During a private ceremony in the morning, Wu and Healey joined family members of those who lost their lives for a wreath-laying at the markers of the twin explosions on Boylston Street.Later in the afternoon, emergency responders, members of the 2013 Boston Red Sox, and hundreds of residents gathered for a bell-ringing ceremony near the finish line. “When you stand there, when they ring the bells, it feels as if everyone’s heart is beating together at the same moment,” Warren said. “And it beats together both for...Orioles can’t hold late lead in 7-6 walk-off loss to White Sox in 10 innings

The Orioles took four leads Saturday but couldn’t hold any of them. After taking a one-run lead in the 10th, the Orioles surrendered two runs in the bottom half of the inning in a 7-6 loss to the Chicago White Sox. Rookie Oscar Colás’ single to right field gave the White Sox the walk-off win.The Orioles (8-7) scored in the top of the 10th thanks to the automatic runner placed at second base at the start of the inning. Jorge Mateo laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Gunnar Henderson to third, and after Cedric Mullins drew a walk, Adley Rutschman beat out a potential double play on a ground ball to short, allowing Henderson to score the go-ahead run.But in the bottom half of the inning, reliever Logan Gillaspie allowed an RBI double to White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal to tie the game. Jake Burger then singled to send pinch-runner Seby Zavala to third before Colás’ walk-off hit over the head of Anthony Santander in right field. Gillaspie (0-1) didn’t re...The Chicago Bulls missed the playoffs, but don’t expect them to tear up the roster for a rebuild: ‘It’s not on our minds’

A rebuild is not in sight for the Chicago Bulls.Well before their losing season came to a dismal close Friday with a play-in loss to the Miami Heat, Bulls fans had formed a chorus of demands for the team to shake up the core of the roster for the 2023-24 season. But executive vice president of basketball operations Artūras Karnišovas made it clear that any fans hoping for a roster overhaul would be disappointed at the end of the offseason.“That’s been thrown around all this season — ‘Blow up, rebuild’ — but it’s not on our minds,” Karnišovas said Saturday at the Advocate Center. “I think the moment we changed our minds in 2021 to focus on winning and trying to build a sustainable program here. That’s what we’re focused right now on.”The 2021 vision that Karnišovas cited was clear-cut at the time — build a core with DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine and Nikola Vučević and surround them...Celtics open with strong first punch, hold on for Game 1 victory over Hawks

With 6:27 remaining in just the second quarter of Game 1 of the playoffs, Al Horford couldn’t hide his emotions. The Celtics were up 22, and the Hawks earned second and chance opportunities. But Horford wouldn’t allow there to be a fourth. The big man corralled a rebound over Atlanta’s Onyeka Okongwu, drew a foul and then continued dribbling down the court. He took two dribbles before taking a few skips, clenching his right fist and letting out a few screams before slapping the ball.It was a rare display of emotion for Horford, the 36-year-old steady, mild-mannered veteran who picks his spots to do so. Even though it was only Game 1 of the first round, it was the strong opening statement he and the Celtics were looking for as they restart their pursuit of a championship that they came so close to claiming a year ago.Horford’s expressions fired up the TD Garden crowd, Jayson Tatum raised his arms to get them louder and the Celtics were on their way to delivering a convincing first pun...‘Boston Strong, forever’: Thousands gather in resilience, memory of 2013 bombings

A little over an hour after daybreak, a bagpiper led a procession of family members who marched with Mayor Michelle Wu and Gov. Maura Healey toward the Boston Marathon finish line on Boylston Street.Ten years ago, terrorist brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev bombed the 117th running of the marathon, killing three spectators and injuring hundreds more. Two police officers died in the aftermath of the bombings.Families of those killed as well as Wu and Healey gathered for a solemn ceremony early Saturday morning, remembering their losses but also acknowledging the strength and resilience that followed the unfathomable tragedy.Wu said she couldn’t help but think about being a mother to her 5- and 8-year-old sons throughout One Boston Day, which has become an annual holiday in the city, when many people across the region conduct community service projects in honor of the victims.“There’s nothing like a mother’s love,” the mayor said, “and to know what many of these moms and familie...Over and out: Germany switches off its last nuclear plants

BERLIN (AP) — “Nuclear, no thanks!”What was once a slogan found on the bumper of many a German car became a reality Saturday, as the country shut down its three remaining nuclear power plants in line with a long-planned transition toward renewable energy. The shutdown of Emsland, Neckarwestheim II and Isar II shortly before midnight drew cheers from anti-nuclear campaigners outside the three reactors and at rallies in Berlin and Munich. Inside the plants, staff held more somber ceremonies to mark the occasion.Decades of anti-nuclear protests in Germany, stoked by disasters at Three Mile Island, Chernobyl and Fukushima, had put pressure on successive governments to end the use of a technology that critics argue is unsafe and unsustainable. But with other industrialized countries, such as the United States, Japan, China, France and Britain, counting on nuclear energy to replace planet-warming fossil fuels, Germany’s decision to stop using both has drawn skepticism at home and abroad, as...Sudan’s army and rival force battle, killing at least 26

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) — Sudan’s military and a powerful paramilitary force engaged in fierce fighting Saturday in the capital and elsewhere in the country, dealing a new blow to hopes for a transition to democracy and raising fears of a wider conflict. The country’s doctors’ syndicate said at least 26 people were killed and more than 100 wounded. The clashes capped months of heightened tensions between the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces group. Those tensions had delayed a deal with political parties to get the country back to its short-lived transition to democracy, which was derailed by an October 2021 military coup. After a day of heavy fighting, the military ruled out negotiations with the RSF, instead calling for the dismantling of what it called a “rebellious militia.” The tough language signaled that the conflict between the former allies, who jointly orchestrated the 2021 coup, was likely to continue. In a statement late Saturday, the military urged Sudanese to remain...Alberta premier broadens restrictions on reporter questions to include media outlets

EDMONTON — Alberta Premier Danielle Smith broadened her new media-question restriction policy Saturday to limit not only questions from reporters but also from media outlets. Smith told her Corus call-in radio show that not only are individual reporters now limited to one question at news conferences – as announced Friday — she will also accept no more than one question in total from any single news outlet at an event.Smith reiterated she needs to put limits on questions in order to provide more answers.“Each media outlet will get one question instead of getting two while we’re in this period of the campaign because I just need to make sure that we’re getting to as many people as possible,” Smith said on “Your Province Your Premier” in response to one main question and two follow-up questions from the show’s host.“(This way) we can get to more media outlets because as we get into the election campaign, there’s going to be far more interest.”Smith’s chief adviser Ro...Man killed in daytime shooting in Keelesdale neighbourhood
