The 3-8 Chicago Bears will play the 6-5 Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium in a Week 12 matchup. Here’s what you need to know before kickoff Monday (7:15 p.m., ESPN).Inactives: Vikings’ Justin Jefferson and Bears’ Tyrique Stevenson outThe Bears won’t have to face Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson for a second time this season when the teams meet Monday night at U.S. Bank Stadium.Jefferson will miss the game as he continues his recovery from a strained right hamstring. Jefferson, the 2022 AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year, has been on injured reserve since the week leading up to the Bears’ first game against the Vikings this season, a 19-13 Minnesota victory Oct. 15.That means the Vikings will be without their two most important offensive players, as quarterback Kirk Cousins is out for the season after Achilles surgery. The Vikings’ top wide receiver without Jefferson is rookie Jordan Addison, who has 48 catches for 647 yards and seven to...Bruins hit the skids in Columbus

The Bruins have suddenly found themselves at a fork in the road. And after their third straight ugly loss, just which way this season is going to go is suddenly debatable.Losing to the Red Wings at home the day after Thanksgiving could be a forgivable blip. Letting one get away from them against a good Ranger team in Madison Square Garden is at least understandable, if not ideal. But what happened Monday night in Columbus is downright concerning. The B’s got blown out at Nationwide Arena by a Blue Jackets team that had lost 16 of their first 22 games and, after a 5-2 loss. It was also the first time the B’s had allowed five or more goals since 2012.Once again, their best players have not played like it. Captain Brad Marchand was minus-3 and David Pastrnak was minus-2.We’ve seen the B’s play better than this, of course, and logic sas they can pull out of it. But at the moment, they’re a mess. For the third time in as many games, the B’s allowed the f...Oceanside community debates short-term rental ordinance

OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- "A lack of enforcement across the board" is a complaint echoed by Oceanside residents during last week’s Oceanside Planning Commission meeting where they took up the city's short-term rental ordinance. Many residents who spoke said the ordinance needs to be more restrictive and better enforced, complaining about party houses causing noise, trash and parking issues -- especially in beachside neighborhoods. “The lack of enforcement goes to a lack of resources," said Dave Baxter who manages short-term rentals and is himself a long-term renter. He says one of the biggest issues with so many vacation rentals -- it's tough to find long-term housing.“There are too many. Where I live, half-a-mile that way, one block that way, four brand new places when I moved. ‘Oh, we're gonna get residents... we have this lawyer, we have finance guy.' They were so excited, all for vacation rentals within months. So yeah, there are too many,” Baxter said. After listening to the sp...Man fatally shot in Grimsby, homicide unit investigating

PORT ALBERNI, B.C. — The mother and stepfather of six-year-old Dontay Lucas have pleaded guilty to his manslaughter, more than five years after the boy was found in medical distress in the woman’s home in Port Alberni, B.C. RCMP originally charged Rykel Frank — also known as Rykel Charleson — and Mitchell Frank with first-degree murder last year in relation to the boy’s March 2018 death. Dan McLaughlin of the BC Prosecution Service says the pair pleaded guilty to the lesser charge in a Port Alberni court on Monday. He says a sentencing hearing will be held on May 16 and 17. When RCMP announced the murder charges in May of 2022 they said it was a tragic investigation that affected many people, including Dontay’s classmates. Police said at the time it was a complex investigation, but wouldn’t say what led them to a charge of first-degree murder, which implies planning and intent. Published Thu, 14 Nov 2024 08:15:45 GMT
CU Bluffs or CU Buffs? If Deion Sanders ain’t careful, Ralphie’s gonna become college football’s version of the Dallas Cowboys. Eighty percent hat, 20 percent cattle.“There is definitely reason,” Brandon Huffman, 247Sports’ national recruiting editor, told me Monday, “to be concerned.”For all of Coach Prime’s sins as a hyperbolist, strategist and staff-builder, as a closer, as a pitch man? Nobody does it better.“We already know what’s gonna transpire,” Sanders said after a 4-8 season ended with a scrappy 23-17 loss at Utah. “You’re gonna be pleased with what’s coming. I promise you that.”Which makes it all the more curious that the viral CU recruiting headlines over the last 48 hours haven’t been about who’s coming … but who’s going. On Monday, the Buffs lost their top QB commitment from the Class of ’24, Danny O’Neil. The day before, they’d lost t...Some ski waxes contain toxic “forever chemicals.” Should Colorado ban them to protect water systems?

Temperatures are dropping, snow is falling and skiers are waxing their skis for another season gliding down Colorado’s iconic mountains. Those waxes, however, may be toxic. Some ski waxes contain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS — a label for thousands of types of manufactured chemicals that do not break down in the environment. As that toxic wax glides along the snow, it slowly flakes off. As the snow melts into water, it carries the tiny deposits down into Colorado’s water supplies.Humans who are exposed to PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals,” are at risk when the substances build up in the body. They can cause decreased fertility, increased risk of some cancers and suppressed immunity. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has focused more intently on ski waxes in recent years, though little has happened on the state or local levels to address the toxic waxes in Colorado — home to 28 downhill ski resorts, and even more nordic ce...Keep Thanksgiving going with this leftover turkey soup
Published Thu, 14 Nov 2024 08:15:45 GMT
By Melissa Clark, The New York TimesFor soup enthusiasts across America, the post-Thanksgiving turkey broth can be as sacred as the holiday meal itself. In many households, even before the dishes and the leftovers are packed away, the turkey carcass and trimmings are nestled into a pot of water for their hourslong simmer. Leftover turkey soup is a cozy way to keep Thanksgiving’s bountiful spirit going for several more meals. This recipe leans toward the heartier, stick-to-your-ribs side of the soup spectrum. Chickpeas and farro give it a nubby texture that can be thick and stewlike, although it can also be thinner and brothier if you add more liquid.Because there’s already so much going on in the pot, this soup can take as much or as little shredded leftover turkey as you are willing to spare from your sandwich reserve — from a couple of cups to a quart. Then again, if you run out, shredded cooked chicken works just as well.Related ArticlesRestaurants, Food and Drink | ...Latest news
