100-win Dodgers try to stave off elimination The Los Angeles Dodgers cobbled together a 100-win regular season, using a strong offense to compensate for a banged-up starting rotation.Time is running out for that formula to produce even one postseason win.The Dodgers are down to their last chance in Game 3 of the NL Division Series, facing a 2-0 deficit against the Arizona Diamondbacks when the series resumes on Wednesday night.Much has been made of L.A.'s bad starting pitching in the first two games — particularly Clayton Kershaw's debacle in Game 1 — but it's also true that the Dodgers' offense hasn't been doing much, either. Mookie Betts is 0 for 7 over the first two games while Max Muncy is 1 for 7 and Freddie Freeman is 1 for 6.“They’ve gotten the big hit," said Muncy, who hit 36 homers during the season. "In the playoffs, that’s what matters. You’ve got to get the hit when it matters. They’ve done that several times and we haven’t.”Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Mookie Betts looks on from the dugout during the fifth ...

iPhone vs Pixel: Which takes better pictures? The iPhone is one of the best smartphone cameras you can get, especially with this year's upgraded megapixels and better zoom. But Google recently unveiled its new Pixel 8 lineup, with improvements to the camera hardware and AI smarts. To find out which smartphone camera takes better photos, I took both the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Pixel 8 Pro out on the streets of New York City to capture photos and videos side-by-side. I posted the results to my Instagram account for a vote.In this car wash shot, the iPhone's brighter colors and saturation edged out the Pixel, which stayed truer to life.(iPhone photos are on left, Pixel on right)But for this regular street scene, the Pixel won out, likely because the iPhone seemed too saturated. When it came to 5x zoom, the iPhone nailed this shot of the Edge attraction and won the vote. Both phones have a 5x optical zoom lens, but the iPhone's hybrid zoom up to 25x worked better. In this macro shot of a flower, people preferred the iPhone's macro shot....

Rescuing hostages in Gaza will be a daunting task

Rescuing hostages in Gaza will be a daunting task By Amy Teibel | Associated PressJERUSALEM — The Hamas-run Gaza Strip is a tiny enclave, measuring 25 miles long and no more than 7 miles wide, surveilled continually by Israel, surrounded by its guns. But rescuing — or even locating — more than 150 hostages hustled there by Palestinian militants who overran Israel’s southern border on Saturday will be a daunting task.Gaza’s densely populated terrain, its network of underground tunnels and the sheer numbers of men, women and children taken captive present Israel with the most complex hostage crisis that the country has ever faced.Mounting rescue operations in the midst of the massive Israeli bombardment of Gaza that followed the deadly Hamas rampage in southern Israel would only make an already difficult mission even more formidable.“The situation is unprecedented,” said Gershon Baskin, who helped to negotiate the 2011 release of Staff Sergeant Gilad Schalit after more than five years of Hamas captivity. ̶...
