Austin 100-degree days may triple if global emissions go unchecked

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Fifth National Climate Assessment was released this week and found that Austin can expect 100-degree days to double by 2050, and perhaps even triple by the end of the century if global greenhouse gas emissions go unchecked.The report is a broad scientific analysis of climate change-related impacts we are already experiencing, what we can expect in the future in our warming world as well as climate mitigation and emissions reductions strategies. The authors — a collaboration between government scientists — found that climate change-related impacts to the U.S. will continue increasing in the future. However, the report also illustrates that the amount of future warming we experience is in our hands.Summer heat intensifiesAustin marked its second-hottest summer on record in 2023, and the hottest-ever at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. WASHINGTON, Mass. (NEWS10) -- The Washington Police Department is warning residents of a robbery that occurred on Tuesday morning on Washington Mountain Road. COPAKE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Columbia County Sheriff's Office arrested two individuals from Poughkeepsie following a reported burglary at the former Roe Jan School at 9065 Route 22. Salvatore Daniel, 41, and Audra Daniele, 37, were allegedly found in possession of stolen copper piping and wiring. Benansky discovered an unoccupied vehicle parked by the building near a broken window. He reportedly saw the two inside the building with the copper piping and wiring.The two were detained and charged with burglary in the third degree, criminal mischief in the third degree, and attempted petit larceny. (NEWS10) -- A New Jersey man was arrested after impersonating a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent and scamming a victim out of over $50,000 worth of money and goods, according to New York State Police. The Los Angeles Rams are moving their practice facility from a temporary site in Thousand Oaks to Woodland Hills ahead of the 2024 NFL season, the team announced on Wednesday. Their new facility will be located on property at West Oxnard Street and Canoga Avenue which Rams owner Stan Kroenke acquired last year. Two Simi Valley residents are dead after what the Riverside County Sheriff's Department described as a murder-suicide in Rancho Mirage Sunday afternoon.In a news release, deputies identified Carl Ashcroft, 61, as the shooter and Kathryn Ashcroft, 55, as the victim. Their relationship to each other was not disclosed by officials.The shooting was reported at about 2:15 p.m., and once deputies arrived to the scene on Lyon Street, they found that Carl Ashcroft, who was declared dead there.Kathryn Ashcroft succumbed to her wounds at a local hospital.Anyone with information is asked to call Master Investigator Navarrete at 951-955-2777 or Investigator Evans at 760-836-1600.Latest news
