Seattle’s Luis Castillo flirted with perfection and Noah Davis answered the Rockies’ prayers in a wonderful pitchers’ dual at T-Mobile Park Sunday afternoon. In the end, however, the Rockies tumbled, again, falling 1-0 for their fifth consecutive loss and getting swept by the Mariners in the three-game series.Seattle won the game in the sixth inning on Jarred Kelenic’s two-out, run-scoring single off lefty reliever Brad Hand. But don’t blame Hand, blame the crucial walks issued by right-hander Dinelson Lamet — one to Ty France to lead off the inning, the other to Cal Raleigh with one out — that set up Kelenic’s hit that brought home France. The Rockies, desperate for a quality start, called up Davis from Triple-A Albuquerque to fill in for injured right-hander German Marquez. Making his first start in the majors, Davis was outstanding. He blanked the Mariners for five innings, giving up three hits (all singles), with three walks and five strik...SF Giants-Tigers game postponed after questionable, lengthy rain delay

DETROIT — The Giants waited and waited and waited. Five hours after the scheduled first pitch Sunday, the finale of their three-game series against the Tigers was finally postponed. They will make up the game on July 24.The game was scheduled to begin at 1:10 p.m. ET, but about 40 minutes before first pitch, the tarp came out on the field. Five hours later, little rain ever arrived. From 1:30 to 5, the skies were almost entirely dry, providing a large enough window to play at least one full game, if not two under the new pace-of-play rules.“We were prepared to play today,” manager Gabe Kapler said. “We’ll be prepared to play tomorrow.”Giants pitcher Alex Cobb, the team’s alternate MLBPA player rep (Austin Slater was not with the club), said “it was terrible” the way the delay and eventual postponement was handled.“We’ve been here since 10 a.m.,” Cobb said. “Really no information was given to us.”While both ...Reggie Jackson on Oakland and the A’s: “They’re not going to have a team here”

OAKLAND – The A’s days in Oakland are numbered, as far as Reggie Jackson is concerned.Jackson, who at one point wanted to purchase the A’s from former owners Steve Schott and Ken Hofmann, believes the team will have no choice but to vacate the East Bay in the coming years because of low revenue issues created by their decaying 55-year-old stadium.“No, they’re not going to have a team here. You can’t play with three, four, five six thousand people in the stands,” Jackson said Sunday at the Coliseum before the A’s held a celebration for the 1973 World Series championship team. “You have no revenues here. What’s the signage look like? You’ve got to have revenue.”The A’s, including their series finale with the New York Mets, had an average home attendance of 12,254 through nine home games, the lowest figure in Major League Baseball. Sunday’s game drew 17,645, the second-largest crowd of the season behind Opening Night (26,805) on March 30.The A’...President of Brisbane business convicted on tax fraud charges

BRAMPTON, Ontario (AP) — The Canadian government has restored funding to Hockey Canada.Hockey Canada made the announcement Sunday, adding Canadian sport minister Pascale St-Onge made it official, before the Canada-United States gold medal game at the world women’s hockey championship.Hockey Canada saw its funding shut off by the federal government, and a number of sponsors have pulled funding since May when it was revealed a woman alleged she was sexually assaulted by eight players — including members of the 2018 world junior team — following a foundation gala in London, Ontario, in February 2018.Hockey Canada and the woman quietly settled a $3.55 million lawsuit out of court. The organization then announced members of the 2003 men’s world junior roster — the last time Halifax hosted — were also being investigated for a group sexual assault. It was also revealed that Hockey Canada’s little-known National Equity Fund – maintained by fees collected from players across the country – had ...Warriors look to even series after losing opener to Kings

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — After four NBA titles and two more trips to the Finals in the past eight seasons, the Golden State Warriors aren’t about to get flustered by one loss in a best-of-seven series. The Sacramento Kings struck first in the first playoff meeting between the Northern California neighbors and have the lead in the series headed into Game 2 on Monday night. “You just stay calm in the face of adversity,” Warriors guard Klay Thompson said. “You don’t panic when it doesn’t go your way and just be yourself. If you do those three things, it will be great.”The Warriors have done that well over the years, building a dynasty around the core of Thompson, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. The Kings are in new territory, having made the playoffs for the first time since 2006, and used that emotion from their success-starved fans to fuel a late-game push that led to a 126-123 victory behind a 38-point effort from De’Aaron Fox.The Warriors struggled to keep Fox out of t...Phillies score 9 in first on way to 14-3 drubbing of Reds
