NEW YORK (AP) — San Diego Padres reliever Robert Suárez was suspended for 10 games by Major League Baseball on Friday, the sixth pitcher penalized for using banned sticky stuff. The penalty was announced by MLB senior vice president for on-field operations Michael Hill.Suárez appealed the discipline to John McHale Jr., a special assistant to baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred. Any suspension will be delayed while the appeal is pending.Suárez was ejected Wednesday for having sticky stuff on his left wrist and arm before he threw a pitch in the eighth inning against Miami. Suárez denied using any banned substances, saying he only had sunscreen on his arm because it was a day game.“We were doing a routine check,” crew chief Todd Tichenor said. “We deemed it was too sticky, very sticky, and he was ejected from the game.”After MLB began cracking down on foreign substances in June 2021, Seattle’s Héctor Santiago and Arizona’s Caleb Smith served suspensions for sticky substances.Mets pitcher...Jude Bellingham scores 4th goal in 3 games to give Real Madrid 1-0 win at Celta

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Jude Bellingham did it again, scoring a fourth goal in three games to lead Real Madrid to a 1-0 win at Celta Vigo on Friday and make it three victories in as many games in the Spanish league.Madrid’s top signing of the offseason scored once in the team’s 2-0 win at Athletic Bilbao in their opener and twice in the 3-1 win at Almeria last weekend. The England midfielder joined Madrid on a 130-million-euro ($142 million) move from Borussia Dortmund this summer, and is proving to be worth the price. At Vigo, Bellingham slipped into the area and was in position to head home the winner in the 81st minute and snatch a victory against a Celta side that had squandered its scoring chances.Bellingham was set up by Joselu Mato, who replaced Vinícius Júnior in the 16th minute, after the Brazil forward picked up an apparent leg injury.Celta goalkeeper Ivan Villar saved Rodrygo’s penalty in the 68th after the goalie had fouled the forward in the area after he was played throu...Denver weather: Rain continues, but widespread flood risk lowers

Two crew members from the Ballyhoo Media advertising boat helped pull a woman to safety on Brickell Key after she was knocked into the water by her dog.The captains spoke to 7News on Friday afternoon, just hours after the rescue. “This boat happens to have a flat bottom so we can go in shallower water,” said Capt. Moe Wyman with Ballyhoo Media. The woman was thrown into the water near the entrance to the Miami River. The captains, experienced members of the Ballyhoo Media team, noticed the woman struggling in the water and offered their help.“I’ve been with the company for about a year, and we go slow enough that if we see a problem, when we see the problem, we ask if they need help,” said Wyman.A picture taken by one of the captains showed people unsuccessfully trying to get the woman back to land. “I noticed a woman, they were trying to pull her out of the water, and it was about 5 feet [deep], and they couldn’t do it,” said Wyman. ...TROPICS WORTH WATCHING

Happy Friday, South Florida!Hopefully everyone had a great end to the week. After seeing heavy downpours and thunderstorms push through north to south across South Florida on Thursday afternoon and early evening, drier air in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere moved in today and allowed for a beautiful summer day in South Florida. Other than a spotty shower or two earlier this morning, rain chances were at a minimum with plenty of sunshine to go around. This allowed temperatures to reach the mid to low 90s with a nice breeze in place. This evening South Florida will continue with very quiet conditions , as we remain mainly dry ahead of the weekend.Speaking of the weekend, lower rain chances will leak into the start of it. On Saturday a few spotty showers will be possible, especially across inland areas in the afternoon. Otherwise a warm day is in the forecast for South Florida as afternoon high temperatures reach into the mid 90s once again. (Average temperatures should be c...WATCH: Video shows moment car slams into ice cream shop in Gloucester

Emergency crews responded in Gloucester after a car slammed into an ice cream shop on Washington Street Friday. The crash happened at Carl’s Cones at the corner of Washington Street and Grove Street and was caught on camera by nearby surveillance video. The driver was taken to a hospital. The shop, officials said, was closed at the time of the crash because of rainy weather, meaning no one was inside. “That’s good because they’re usually open all the time,” said neighbor Patrick Hunt.Video shared with 7NEWS showed the car involved in this crash first come around a corner before drifting off the road and smashing into the building. Neighbors said they heard a loud bang at the moment of impact and soon saw the car in the front of the shop.“Obviously, it’s pretty insane when the ice cream place right next to you has a car through it,” Hunt said. Gloucester’s Acting Building Commissioner Donald Belanger was on scene with board-up crews around 4 p.m. Friday after...‘We try people in court, not on the internet’: Norfolk DA decries harassment of witnesses in Karen Read murder case

Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey is sounding off against the harassment of witnesses in the ongoing, high-profile murder case involving a woman accused of killing her boyfriend, a Boston police officer, last year. In a video statement posted online, Morrisey said of the witnesses, “To have them accused of murder is outrageous. To have them harassed and intimidated based on false narratives and accusations is wrong. They are witnesses doing what our justice systems asks of them.”“We try people in the court and not on the internet for a reason,” he continued. “The internet has no rules of evidence. The internet has no punishment for perjury and the internet does not know all the facts.” Prosecutors have said Karen Read ran over her boyfriend, John OâKeefe, with her SUV in January, 2022 after a night of drinking. Read, prosecutors said, then left the scene. She maintains her innocence and says he was attacked by a...Lawsuit claims Trump ineligible for presidency because of his role in insurrection

A South Florida lawyer has filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump seeking to have the former president declared ineligible to run for another term as president. The lawsuit, citing Trump’s involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, wants the federal courts to enforce the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, added after the Civil War to prevent people who engaged in rebellion against the United States from holding office again.Lawrence Caplan’s lawsuit asserts the provision clearly applies to Trump:“President Trump’s efforts both in Washington, as well as in Georgia and perhaps other states, as well as the consequential assault on the U.S. Capitol … make him ineligible to ever serve in federal office again. Now given that the facts seem to be crystal clear that Trump was involved to some extent in the insurrection that took place on January 6th, the sole remaining question is whether American jurists who swear an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution upon their entry to the bench, wil...How much rain has San Diego had this year to date?

SAN DIEGO -- Over the last year, San Diego has been slammed by storm after storm, bringing with it historic levels of rainfall to the state. After the driest three-year period on record in California, the region has seen extensive precipitation, particularly given the consecutive atmospheric rivers that hit this past winter and more recently, Tropical Storm Hilary. The rainfall has provided some needed -- and unexpected -- relief to the drought-stressed state, while at the same time causing widespread flooding, mudslides and rockslides.Through March, unrelenting winter storms brought on San Diego County's first bouts of significant rainfall this year, dropping more in about 45 "wet days" than in the entirety of 2022.When Hilary hit the region months later, residents saw even more rain, breaking records in some parts of the region for the wettest August day on record. While the 2023 is far from over, the "water year," which is a 12-month period from Oct. 1 to Sep. 31 that is used to me...Latest news
