Colorado is fired up for an Oscar win.Last year’s biggest statewide entry in the Academy Awards was “Don’t Look Up,” the ecological fable/comedy directed by former Denverite Adam McKay (“Anchorman,” “The Big Short”) and co-written by Denver’s David Sirota. It lost in all four categories for which it was nominated — including Best Motion Picture of the Year — but there’s hope again in 2023.“Hollywood has a way of making the ceremony feel really humbling,” said Denver producer Shane Boris, who will attend the Oscars this weekend thanks to nominations for two separate titles. “We never make these even thinking an Oscar is possible.”“These” are the documentaries “Fire of Love” and “Navalny,” two very different projects that share Boris as a producer. Boris, in fact, is the only person in Oscars history other than Walt Disney to be nominated in the Documenta...Storm headed for Southern California to bring additional rain, cause significant snowmelt

Authorities say 12 people have been found dead so far following the historic storms that buried the San Bernardino Mountains under several feet of snow, covering homes and paralyzing travel.“So far, we can only confirm (one), a traffic accident, as weather-related,” San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Mara Rodriguez said Wednesday. “The preliminary information in the other deaths does not indicate they are weather-related, but those investigations are ongoing.”“There’s going to be a lot more,” said Megan Vazquez, a volunteer. "It's been very cold here. It's been below freezing, so if somebody didn’t have electricity or gas to heat their home, they may have frozen to death. I mean, it's shocking."The storms blocked road access to mountain areas, leaving stranded locals to fend for themselves without power as supplies of food, medicine and fuel were dwindling.Gov. Making a Splash: L.A. treasures the Aquadolls are a glorious mass of contradictions. A walking dichotomy, covered in glass and glitter. On one hand, perhaps the most overt and obvious hand, they’re a joyful exercise in melodic pop-rock, kitted out in sparkles and mermaid tails. But life has a habit of reminding us that it’s not all sunshine, puppy dogs and rainbows, and the Aquadolls encapsulate that majestically. Their counter, the yin to the happy yang, is their ability to capture life’s angst with oft-caustic but never hopeless lyrics. And of course, they can ferociously hammer their instruments between more delicate moments.Singer and guitarist Melissa Brooks started the band a decade ago with an entirely different lineup, chopping and changing until she eventually linked up with bassist Keilah Nina and drummer Jacqueline Proctor in 2018. The band’s third album, Charmed, will be released this summer and it’s this trio’s first together. New single “Sneaky” is, literally, a sneak ...Latest news
