Waymo, Cruise vehicles have impeded emergency vehicle response 66 times this year: SFFD SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- KRON4 reported last week and all weekend on the Pride road closures, but some Waymo cars didn’t get the memo. Multiple incidents were reported where a barricade would be up in the road along the parade route and a Waymo self-driving car would stall out—not knowing what to do.A picture from SF Supervisor Aaron Peskin shows a Waymo car Peskin said blocked traffic and a Muni bus for several minutes on Columbus Ave. The supervisor said he’s hearing about self-driving car issues happening more frequently. Heat Advisory for Bay Area in effect this weekend “Cruise primarily, and Waymo secondarily have consistently refused to share data with the city," Peskin said. "We learn more from social media and our experiences on the street than they are willing to share with us.”San Francisco Fire Department Assistant Deputy Chief Darius Luttropp said so far this year, a self-driving car, like Waymo or Cruise, has impeded an emergency vehicle’s ability to respond to a scene...

San Jose mayor pitches MLB to come to South Bay

San Jose mayor pitches MLB to come to South Bay (KRON) -- Could Major League Baseball come to San Jose? Matt Mahan, the city's mayor, penned a letter to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred pushing back against the unusual rule preventing baseball's biggest league from coming to the South Bay. MLB has a "territorial rights" rule in place that does not allow a team in San Jose due to its proximity to San Francisco, home of the Giants. Instead, the South Bay has the San Jose Giants, the Single-A minor league affiliate of the Giants. In his letter written on June 15, Mahan claims that the territorial rights rule is specific to San Jose. He said not only is San Jose the only city impacted by MLB's territorial rights rule, but the rule also does not impact any other city nationwide in any other professional sports league. ‘I feel terrible for Oakland fans’: Vegas-born MLB players advocate to keep A’s in Oakland In 2013, the Giants opposed a proposed A's move to San Jose, according to reporting by the Los Angeles Times. The A's would have n...

He said he felt ready to return to the lineup as early as Sunday, but the team wanted to be cautious with his injury.“Sunday he went through a whole day, felt good, came out of it well and said he could have played that day,” manager Dave Roberts said. “Knowing we had the off day (Monday), to know we could start him (Tuesday), have him down tomorrow, and have him back in there Thursday, we felt good about that.”Muncy acknowledged there was some hesitation about playing his first game in the higher altitude, but it wasn’t a barrier to his return.“There might have been a little bit. This place is notorious for your body not necessaril...

Reappointment vote ends in partisan deadlock for battleground Wisconsin’s top elections official MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A vote on the future of Wisconsin’s top elections official ended in partisan deadlock Tuesday amid Republican calls for the nonpartisan administrator of the statewide elections commission to resign over how she ran the 2020 presidential contest.A stalemate between elections commissioners on whether to reappoint Meagan Wolfe creates uncertainty over who will be in charge of elections in a battleground state so narrowly divided that four of the past six presidential elections in Wisconsin have been decided by less than a percentage point. Wolfe has staunchly defended the decisions she’s made and fought back against false claims of election fraud, including those made by former President Donald Trump.“When your constituents challenge you about the integrity of Wisconsin elections, tell them the truth,” she wrote to lawmakers just days before the vote on her reappointment. “When people perpetuate false claims about our election systems, push back publicly. New Mexico State basketball players settle lawsuit stemming from hazing episodes The former New Mexico State basketball players who filed a lawsuit alleging they were ganged up on and sexually assaulted by teammates have settled the case, one of their attorneys said Tuesday.Aggie players Deuce Benjamin and Shak Odunewu filed the lawsuit in April, alleging three players on the team assaulted them, while coaches who knew of the assaults did nothing about it. Attorney Joleen Youngers said all defendants — the players, coaches and the New Mexico State board of regents — were part of the settlement, and that she could not release the terms. A school spokesman said terms would be released on the state’s open-records website “soon.” “The important thing was getting a settlement that reasonably compensates them and allows them to put this matter behind them, and helps them to move on,” Youngers said. “Because a lawsuit like this can end up being a second victimization, where they have to go through months, if not years, of dealing with all the issues.”...

Blackhawks set to begin rebuild with anticipated No. 1 selection of Connor Bedard in NHL draft NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Chicago Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson arrived for the NHL draft in Music City this week reflecting on the tear-down job he began conducting a summer ago by trading away Alex DeBrincat and Kirby Dach. And that was before Davidson essentially completed the process by dealing away Patrick Kane to the New York Rangers in February. Then, the organization and longtime captain Jonathan Toews decided to part ways.On Wednesday, the 34-year-old GM gets to begin building the Blackhawks back up again with the No. 1 pick, with which Chicago is expected to select 17-year-old Canadian sharp-shooting and playmaking center Connor Bedard.“It feels so long ago, but the difficulty in some of those decisions is very present in my mind,” Davidson said Tuesday. “It’s heartening to see the development in some of those players that we acquired in the draft last year. And I feel we’re in a good spot moving forward.”Davidson, like most GMs who have had the No. 1 pick, won’t ...
