Kiszla: I-am-Groot attitude of quarterback John Matocha makes Mines the biggest little football miracle in Colorado

GOLDEN – In the ultimate revenge of a computer science nerd, John Matocha pulls on his Orediggers super-hero uniform on Saturday morning and turns into a full-grown brute of a Groot.“I’m not the biggest guy. But I’ve got a big heart,” said Matocha, his eyes twinkling with mischief. And every time this 5-foot-11, 180-pound quarterback takes off with the football, he stares a would-be tackler in the eye and thinks: “I can truck him!”On a frightfully snowy Halloween weekend, Matocha and those nerds from Colorado School Mines did it again, plowing previously unbeaten Western Colorado 42-7 to keep on truckin’ as the No. 1-ranked team in NCAA Division II football.During a frigid afternoon when Matocha did the remarkable, accounting for a record 172nd touchdown of his college career, he also did something almost unthinkable for a dude who plays with such I-am-Groot ferocity that he’s tougher to tackle than the trunk of an four-ton tree.Late in the fourth quarter, with Mines’ seventh victory...WATCH: CU Buffs Shilo Sanders ejected for targeting vs. UCLA, flexes as penalty flags fly

PASADENA, Calif. — Shilo Sanders brought the hammer one time too many. The Buffs safety, son of CU football coach Deion Sanders, was ejected for targeting a UCLA receiver late in the second quarter of the Buffs’ tussle with the Bruins early Saturday evening.Shilo Sanders was disqualified for targeting after this hit pic.twitter.com/1EJ7IOdKKs— FOX College Football (@CFBONFOX) October 29, 2023Sanders, a transfer from Jackson State, lowered his shoulder and laid out an almost perfectly-timed hit on UCLA tight end Carsen Ryan on a third-and-4 pass from the CU 20.One problem: The location of the contact wasn’t perfectly timed, as the smaller Buffs defender didn’t lower the shoulder enough to avoid contact with the chin and face mask of Ryan, whose head snapped back. The Buffs defender celebrated the blow for several seconds at the site of contact while a slew of flags flew.Related ArticlesCollege Sports | CU Buffs’ last Los Angeles football d...Denver East’s Rosie Mucharsky, Chaparral’s Brennan Draper top podium at Class 5A state cross country meet

After a long and at times controversial process, the Titanic-era S.S Keewatin finally arrived at its new home at a dry dock in Kingston on Thursday afternoon. The massive ship is over 330 feet long and weighs close to 3,000 tonnes, and was in service from 1908 to 1965, transporting cargo before primarily being used as a tourist vessel. For years the ship was kept at Port McNicoll since 2012 before being donated to the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes in Kingston, finally making the trip this past week after months of anticipation. It’s not the first time the ship has been in Kingston, after being transported in two pieces in November 1907. On Thursday, employees and volunteers from the museum along with the many spectators who came to view the ship upon its arrival said it was surreal to see the ship finally arrive in Kingston. Director and Chair of the Museum, Christopher West, said it’s amazing to see the ship finally arrive in the museum’s dry dock, but there...Tkachuk gets his 1st goal of the season, Panthers rally past Kraken 3-2
